Support the Institute

We seek voluntary contributions to carry out our work. Your support would help us to identify what understandings of peace have in common and to place that common ground at the service of the United Nations and its Member States.

Why support matters

The Institute is an independent, non-profit association. Under its Statutes, its funds come from membership fees and from voluntary contributions, donations and grants from members, benefactors and other organizations, institutions and agencies, and any surplus must be reinvested in its work. To date, its work has rested on the time of its Director and of voluntary Research Trainees. That work has produced two peer-reviewed articles, three statements published by the United Nations, one side event at the Human Rights Council and a systematic review, under way, of how 61 peace concepts are defined across 117 sources.

Contributions would allow the Institute to complete studies that take several years. Unearmarked contributions would protect two things in particular. They would give the Institute the independence to choose the questions it studies, rather than those that any single source of funding might prefer. And a wide base of contributors from every region would help to ensure that no one point of view determines what is studied.

Who supports the Institute

The Institute receives no funding from the United Nations. Its work depends on voluntary financial contributions and on the time, effort and energy that its volunteers give to it.

How contributions are reported

The Statutes provide that the Board presents a financial report and the auditors’ report to the Members’ Assembly each spring, and that the funds of the Institute are held in accounts in its own name.
